The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould readying.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. Something that is important at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and durability, creating a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is yet another procedure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too fast, causing bending of the material.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
When the component inside te mold has cooled effectively, the person handling the process can then take out the finished item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, providing a number of identical products.
