The Rotomolding Method in Detail

1. Mold readying.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 spins per minute. One thing that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and strength, producing a weak product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which produces bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another measure that relies a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
Once the component within te mould has cooled properly, the molder handling the procedure can then extract the finished product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of identical product lines.
