The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold preparation.
A predetermined measure of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 spins per min. One thing that is essential at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and durability, making a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional measure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing bending of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the product within te mold has cooled properly, the person handling the procedure can then remove the finalized item from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of similar product lines.
