The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould readying.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and placed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and durability, creating a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional step that depends a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing warping of the material.

4. The discharging or de-moulding phase.
Once the material inside te mold has cooled successfully, the person handling the operation can then take out the finished product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of identical products.
