1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined volume of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and put into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is critical at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and strength, producing a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another measure that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled properly, the person taking care of the operation can then extract the finished item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of identical product lines.
