The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould readying.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in grain form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. Something that is essential at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and durability, making a faulty product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which generates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the component has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces a little for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another procedure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
Once the component within te mould has cooled adequately, the person handling the procedure can then take out the finished product from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, making a number of identical products.
