The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The coloring intended for the finished product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion step.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. Something that is vital at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and durability, creating a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional procedure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing bending of the item.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
As soon as the component within te mould has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the procedure can then extract the finalized item from the mold. The function is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of exact items.
