The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mold readying.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color chosen for the end goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is critical at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and strength, producing a poor product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which develops bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another measure that relies a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
When the material within te mold has cooled properly, the person taking care of the procedure can then extract the finished item from the mold. The process is repeated from the start, supplying a number of exact items.
