The Rotomoulding Procedure in Detail

1. Mold fitting.
A fixed measure of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and positioned inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. One thing that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and durability, generating a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mold. This is another procedure that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing warping of the material.

4. The removing or de-molding phase.
Once the material inside te mold has cooled successfully, the person managing the procedure can then take out the completed item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of similar products.
