The Rotomolding Process in Detail

1. Mold readying.
A fixed volume of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mold. The mould is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and positioned within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. Something that is vital at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and strength, generating a weak item. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mold. This is one more measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing bending of the product.

4. The offloading or de-moulding step.
As soon as the product within te mold has cooled correctly, the molder taking care of the process can then take out the completed item from the mould. The process is repeated from the start, providing a number of exact items.
