The Rotomoulding Method in Detail

This moulding process has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians for instance, worked with rotocasting solutions in the of ceramics. The procedure has however taken very long to take affect because it was looked at to be a pretty slow-moving process

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed measure of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The coloring preferred for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. The main thing that is essential at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and durability, making a faulty product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which produces bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is one more procedure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing warping of the item.

4. The removing or de-molding step.
Once the component within te mould has cooled adequately, the person handling the process can then remove the completed product from the mold. The process is repeated from the start, making a series of identical products.
