The Roto-Molding Process in Detail

1. Mold readying.
A fixed measure of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The color tone intended for the end product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is crucial at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and strength, generating a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which develops bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another step that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the item.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
Once the component inside te mould has cooled correctly, the molder handling the process can then extract the finished item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of identical items.
