The Rotomoulding Method in Detail

1. Mould readying.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. One thing that is important at this point is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and durability, producing a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is another procedure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the item.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
When the material inside te mold has cooled adequately, the person handling the process can then take out the completed item from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, making a number of similar products.
