The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold preparation.

The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and put into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, producing a weak product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing bending of the material.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
When the component within te mould has cooled correctly, the person managing the procedure can then remove the finalized item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, giving a series of identical products.
