The Rotomolding Method in Detail

This molding process has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for instance, utilized rotocasting solutions in the creating of ceramics. 1. Mould readying.
A predetermined amount of polymer in powder form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The colour preferred for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per min. One thing that is essential at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, generating a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is one more measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the product.

4. The offloading or de-moulding phase.
Once the material inside te mould has cooled correctly, the molder handling the procedure can then extract the finished product from the mould. The process is repeated from the start, supplying a series of similar product lines.
