The Roto-Molding Procedure Components

This moulding operation has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for example, utilized rotocasting methods in the producing of ceramics. The procedure has however taken very long to take affect because it was thought of to be a rather slow process

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The coloring desired for the final goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per min. The main thing that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose stability and durability, generating a weak product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is another procedure that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing warping of the material.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
When the material inside te mold has cooled adequately, the molder handling the procedure can then take out the completed product from the mould. The technique is repeated from the start, providing a series of similar product lines.
