1. Mold readying.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and put within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 spins per min. The main thing that is crucial at this point is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, making a faulty product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which generates bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another measure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing warping of the product.

4. The removing or de-molding phase.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled properly, the person handling the operation can then extract the finalized item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the start, giving a number of identical products.
