The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold preparation.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per minute. One thing that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and durability, producing a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which creates bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional procedure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
Once the material inside te mould has cooled properly, the person managing the process can then take out the finished item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a series of similar products.
