The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mold. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color preferred for the end goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and inserted within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. The main thing that is vital at this point is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and strength, making a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which generates bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is another step that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too rapidly, causing bending of the item.

4. The removing or de-moulding step.
Once the component within te mold has cooled successfully, the molder managing the operation can then take out the completed item from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of identical product lines.
