The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould prep work.
A fixed quantity of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color tone desired for the final goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 spins per min. The main thing that is vital at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and durability, producing a faulty product. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another step that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The removing or de-moulding step.
Once the component within te mold has cooled successfully, the person taking care of the procedure can then extract the finished product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the start, making a series of similar products.
