The Rotomolding Process Components

This moulding procedure has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for instance, employed rotocasting methods in the of ceramics. 1. Mold preparation.
A fixed measure of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and inserted into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per min. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose value and strength, creating a weak product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the component has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is another measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
Once the material inside te mould has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the operation can then take out the completed product from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the start, providing a number of identical items.
