The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mold preparation.
A predetermined volume of polymer in powder form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The coloring intended for the end goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and placed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per sixty seconds. The main thing that is vital at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and strength, creating a weak product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which develops bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional procedure that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
Once the component inside te mold has cooled effectively, the molder managing the process can then take out the finalized product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the start, making a series of similar products.
