1. Mould prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and put within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and strength, producing a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another procedure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the material.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the product inside te mold has cooled properly, the person taking care of the process can then extract the completed item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, making a series of identical products.
