The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mold readying.
A fixed measure of polymer in grain form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and put inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and durability, producing a faulty product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which generates bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is one more procedure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing warping of the material.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component inside te mould has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the operation can then take out the finalized product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of similar items.
