The Rotomolding Procedure in Detail

1. Mould readying.
A predetermined volume of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is vital at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and strength, making a weak product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is yet another measure that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the product.

4. The discharging or de-moulding phase.
When the product within te mould has cooled correctly, the molder managing the operation can then remove the finalized product from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the start, giving a number of exact product lines.
