The Rotomolding Process Components

This molding technique has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl product lines. Egyptians for instance, utilized rotomoulding techniques in the manufacturing of ceramics. The Swiss were also making use of this rotation approach to make hollow chocolate eggs. Some plastic product lines in the USA were manufactured using this approach some time between 1940 and 1950. The procedure has however taken very long to take affect because it was thought of to be a relatively slow process

1. Mold prep work.
A predetermined measure of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The coloring wanted for the final goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and durability, producing a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which creates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mold. This is one more measure that relies a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing warping of the material.

4. The unloading or de-molding phase.
When the product within te mould has cooled effectively, the person handling the operation can then remove the completed item from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of similar product lines.
