The Rotomolding Process Components

1. Mould prep work.
A fixed quantity of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mold. The mould is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and positioned within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is vital at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and strength, creating a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the component has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too fast, causing warping of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
Once the product within te mould has cooled correctly, the molder managing the process can then extract the finalized item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a series of exact items.
