The Rotomoulding Procedure in Detail

1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined measure of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mould. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is important at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and durability, generating a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quick, causing warping of the product.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
Once the component within te mould has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the procedure can then extract the finalized product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of similar product lines.
