The Rotomolding Method Components

This moulding system has been used since early times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians for example, applied rotational molding techniques in the of ceramics. 1. Mold fitting.

The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 spins per min. Something that is vital at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and strength, producing a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is another step that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing bending of the product.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the material inside te mold has cooled properly, the molder handling the process can then extract the finalized item from the mold. The process is repeated from the start, making a number of exact product lines.
