The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold readying.
A predetermined amount of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mould. The mold is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per min. Something that is vital at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, generating a poor item. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which develops bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the component has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of removal from the mold. This is another procedure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the item.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
When the material within te mold has cooled successfully, the molder managing the process can then take out the finalized item from the mold. The function is repeated from the start, providing a number of similar products.
