1. Mold prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The coloration desired for the end product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per minute. Something that is crucial at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, creating a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another procedure that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled successfully, the person handling the process can then remove the completed item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the start, supplying a series of similar products.
