The Rotomolding Process Components

1. Mold preparation.
A fixed volume of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per minute. Something that is essential at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and durability, creating a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another measure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing warping of the product.

4. The discharging or de-moulding phase.
Once the product inside te mold has cooled properly, the person taking care of the operation can then take out the finished product from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the start, providing a series of exact items.
