The Rotomoulding Procedure in Detail

1. Mould fitting.
A fixed quantity of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and put inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per sixty seconds. Something that is critical at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and strength, making a weak product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which generates bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another procedure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the material.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the material inside te mould has cooled correctly, the person taking care of the process can then remove the finished product from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of identical items.
