The Roto-Molding Procedure Components

1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined measure of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The coloration desired for the final goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. The main thing that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and strength, producing a faulty product. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing warping of the item.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
When the material inside te mould has cooled correctly, the molder managing the procedure can then extract the finalized product from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, providing a number of exact items.
