The Rotomolding Process Components

This moulding procedure has been used since early times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians for instance, employed rotocasting systems in the producing of ceramics. 1. Mold preparation.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color tone preferred for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and put within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is important at this point is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and durability, making a faulty product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which creates bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is one more step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quick, causing warping of the product.

4. The offloading or de-moulding phase.
Once the product inside te mould has cooled properly, the person managing the procedure can then take out the finalized item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, making a number of similar products.
