The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mold readying.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per sixty seconds. One thing that is crucial at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, making a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mold. This is yet another measure that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the material.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the product within te mould has cooled correctly, the person handling the process can then take out the completed item from the mold. The process is repeated from the start, making a series of similar products.
