The Rotomoulding Process Components

This moulding method has been used since ancient times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians as an example, used roto-molding procedures in the of ceramics. 1. Mould preparation.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color desired for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. One thing that is important at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and durability, producing a poor product. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is another procedure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled adequately, the molder handling the procedure can then take out the finalized item from the mould. The process is repeated from the start, supplying a number of exact products.
