The Roto-Molding Procedure Components

1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined volume of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The colour chosen for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and placed into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is vital at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and durability, creating a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional measure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing bending of the product.

4. The discharging or de-molding phase.
Once the material within te mould has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the process can then take out the finalized product from the mould. The technique is repeated from the start, supplying a series of similar product lines.
