The Rotomoulding Procedure Components

1. Mold prep work.
A predetermined amount of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The coloring chosen for the finished item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 rotations per min. One thing that is important at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and durability, producing a poor product. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which creates bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
Once the product within te mould has cooled correctly, the person managing the procedure can then take out the finished item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a series of identical items.
