The Rotomoulding Procedure in Detail

1. Mould fitting.
A fixed quantity of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The turning is done gradually, about 20 spins per min. The main thing that is essential at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and strength, creating a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which generates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mold. This is another procedure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the item.

4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
As soon as the component inside te mould has cooled properly, the molder taking care of the procedure can then take out the completed item from the mould. The process is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of identical products.
