The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mold readying.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per min. Something that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and durability, producing a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mold. This is yet another measure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too fast, causing bending of the material.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
When the component within te mold has cooled successfully, the molder handling the procedure can then take out the finished product from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of identical product lines.
