The Rotomoulding Method in Detail

1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in powder form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The color tone needed for the finished product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. The main thing that is critical at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose stability and durability, generating a poor product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which develops bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional procedure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the product.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
When the product within te mold has cooled properly, the person handling the process can then remove the finished item from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, giving a number of exact products.
