The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined measure of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, making a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which creates bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the component has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mold. This is one more measure that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The removing or de-molding step.
Once the product inside te mould has cooled correctly, the molder handling the operation can then remove the completed item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of exact products.
