The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mould readying.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and installed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per min. Something that is critical at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and strength, generating a weak product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another procedure that relies a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the material.

4. The offloading or de-molding phase.
Once the component within te mold has cooled properly, the molder managing the procedure can then extract the finished product from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, providing a series of similar items.
